Choice of Super Fund

Freedom to invest in your future

If you are eligible (most employees in Australia are) you can choose which fund your employer contributes to. It's this choice that determines where your super guarantee contributions are invested.

Choice gives you control and makes it easier to keep your super together when changing jobs or industries.

How to choose

If you are eligible to choose your super fund, your employer will give you Standard Choice Form within 28 days of starting work, and must act on your choice within two months, after you return a valid request to them.

If you are eligible, you can also choose your fund at any other time, by submitting a Standard Choice Form (or any other valid request) to your employer. Although you can choose at any time, employers are only required to act once on your choice in any 12 month period.

The default fund

The default fund is where the employer will send your super contributions unless you choose another super fund and notify your employer. The Standard Choice Form you receive when starting work will tell you about the employer's default fund.

If you have super in more than one fund because you have have just accepted the default fund when you changed jobs, stop and think. It may be costing you more in fees! If this applies to you, read about consolidating your other super into your Australian Enterprise Super .

Who is eligible?

You can generally choose you super fund if you're covered by:

  • a federal award
  • a ‘notional agreement preserving state award' (NAPSA)
  • another award or agreement that doesn't require super support
  • or not employed under any state award or industrial agreement.
